Popping atomizers? Here's how to stop it

Updated: Oct 19, 2018

We’re all familiar with the infamous “vape spit back”. When the atomizer of your E-cigarette starts popping, it can make your vaping experience quite unpleasant. Not only is a popping atomizer annoying but it can be damaging to your tank and you could even end up swallowing your E-Liquid or burning your tongue. You’re also most likely to miss out on the great flavour of your E-Liquid, which is the last thing we want. However, we’re pleased to tell you that there are ways to combat a popping atomizer, or at least stop the effects.

Below are some quick fixes that can help stop it from happening.

Don’t put too much E-Liquid on your coils:

The main reason for popping atomizers is putting too much E-Liquid on your coils when you prime them. Of course, you do this to avoid the burnt taste, however, it can also cause the opposite effects. When priming your coils, allow time to let the E-Liquid soak in to prevent the build-up of excess juice and spit-back.

Try adjusting the airflow:

Spit backs can sometimes happen due to too much air being in the tank which causes E-Liquid to flood your tank. Try adjusting your tank to allow less airflow or using a longer drip tip which has a slightly smaller airhole as this will prevent getting E-Liquid in your mouth when you vape.

Try adjusting the wattage:

When it comes to sub-ohm vaping, if the wattage is too low it will most likely cause vape spit-back. When the wattage is low, it takes more time to heat up your coil, which allows the E-Liquid to flow in first and flood the coil. As we said above, flooded coils are the main cause of popping atomizers, so try having a play around with your wattage by increasing it slightly and see if that stops your popping.

VG/PG ratioIs the E-Liquid your using mostly PG? Try using an E-Liquid with a different VG/PG ratio as propylene glycol is thinner than vegetable glycerin and a thinner E-Liquid will constantly flood your coil if you are using a sub-ohm tank. It will also vaporize at a lower temperature.
